Celebration of Song at Dawn in Bondi

Our first morning at Bondi started out very early with unexpected live music and song taking place on the deck of our hotel performed by excited young Irish visitors celebrating the miracle of the gorgeous Australian morning in paradise.

I’ll never forget the excitement (no doubt inspired by the beers in their hands and the beauty of the beach at sunrise) by these young ones when the blue eyed, freckled one asked, “What can we be more grateful for than this”?

Listen as they sing and play with all of their might, welcoming strangers and connecting from the heart. Too bad our neighbors in the next room couldn’t “go with the flow” at 7 am, effectively stopping the performance and the camaraderie happening between hearts just because of the early hour. They respectfully left the scene, much to our dismay, as it was a unique celebration of life!

The miracle of social networking is revealed…

From now on, I would love you to meet some of the GutZy Women I’ve met on the Internet, through social networking sites, several whom I have now met up with personally right here in Australia. I bet you’ll want to get to know them, once I introduce you.

I was looking forward to sharing the video footage we took as we met them here in Australia on our way up the coast. However, if you have ever gotten totally frustrated with the digital world, then you can relate to how crushed I was when the video I took with my Flip camera simply disappeared as I was uploading it to my external hard drive (Now broken as well, which is a whole other story).

AAAHHHRRRGGG!

Thank goodness I at least have photo’s to show you who they are. I hope you look them up as they have so much to offer and they really care about people, especially women and their families, creatures and Mother Earth, totally PASSIONATE about how they can be of service to you and the world.

In this video, I meet face to face with…

Randa Magdi…A woman passionate about about animals and their welfare

Randa is one of those women who’s smile is contagious. Her passion for life and the animals of the world is undeniable. She has created such a valuable website for you, ESPECIALLY if you have dogs or cats, you really shouldn’t miss out!

She’s giving away two ESSENTIAL reports about the health, safety and happiness of your pets. I’ve read them and learned a lot, considering I have enjoyed lots of pets my entire life! (Just ask my family…I was the one always bringing home the dogs and cats to adopt.)

Here’s Randa’s Valuable & Interesting website

I encourage you to befriend her and pick her brain as a member of our free GutZy Women Virtual Clubhouse

Diane Corriette…a GutZy & Inspirational Guide

At the end of Video Part 6, Randa and I have a little fun with Diane Corriette of Women Internet Marketer’s fame who lives in the London, England area, a member of our GutZy Women International Alliance and one of Randa’s most beloved mentors.

Diane first connected Randa and me a couple of years ago through “Women Internet Marketers”. Diane is an AMAZING resource for not only Internet marketing but for spiritual guidance and abundant life coaching.

I’m sure you’ll LOVE Diane, so please join the Ning and befriend her as well…might as well befriend them both while you’re there.\

Thank you for following our Grand Australian Adventure…there is much more to come!

Back to the Grand Adventure…Bondi Beach by Sydney

Bondi Beach (pronounced “BOND-eye”,) is a historic and popular beach and is located 7 kilometres (4 miles…wish I would have learned how to convert in school!:) east of the Sydney central business district.

Much of this video shows the main street called Campbell Parade and it features many popular cafes, restaurants and hotels, with spectacular views of the beach. Hotel Bondi (where we stayed) is a famous landmark opposite the beach.

Bondi Pavilion is right across on the beach itself and is a community cultural center, which features a theater, gallery, rehearsal, meeting and function rooms, art workshop, studios, restaurants… It is used for major festivals and performances throughout the year.

A few interesting tidbits about Bondi Beach:

Hosted the beach volleyball competition at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

On 6 February 1938, 5 people drowned and over 250 were rescued after a series of large waves struck the beach and pulled people back into the sea, a day that became known as “Black Sunday“.

Historic Bondi Beach

In 2007, the Guinness World Record for the largest swimsuit photo shoot was set at Bondi Beach, with 1,010 women wearing bikinis taking part. (Now if this would have been 1,010 men in Speedos that would have been something!:)

Has been used as a location for a few Australian and International movies and television series.

Bondi blue, a colour name coined by Apple Computer for the original iMac computer. It is believed to be named for the color of the water at Bondi Beach.

How to Communicate from Down Under…Thank you Skype!

While in Bondi, my Hubby got a cell phone right around the corner from the hotel and the learning process began! The Australians don’t call them cell phones…they’re “Mobile Phones” and the companies that offer the service drive you crazy because they don’t tell you how many minutes you get at what rate. Instead, they give you a “value” of the calls made…for example “that plan is a $165.00 value”. When you try to pin them down as to what that really means…they couldn’t tell you!

And did you know that when you call a mobile number from a landline, they charge your landline! Mobile phones are quite expensive to run it seemed to me and if you don’t use all your minutes by the end of that month…you lose them and start from scratch! It all actually reminded me of the cell phone companies 10 years ago.

And as far as the landline company, “Telstra”, just try to get a real person on the phone or meet a real person at a Telstra office? Forget it…and I thought Qwest was troublesome!

But I’ve got to tell you…if you were at my grand opening, we gave you a demonstration of “Skype”. Well, after going through all that with the phone companies, WE LOVE SKYPE and I signed up for $5.95 mo., I can call anyone at any number in the US and talk for as long as I want. PLUS I get a phone number in the US that YOU can reach me on from any phone (doesn’t require that you have a computer.) My hubby got a plan to call 37 countries for $14.95/mo.

If you haven’t checked out Skype…you really should! It’s free to download and use if you make calls from computer to computer.

My good Ozzie friend, Janet Beckers, of Wonderful Web Women, also gave me the scoop about phone cards which you can buy very cheap online or at the “News Agencies” in case I needed to make calls from our landline to be sure the calls were not dropped (The only drawback to Skype).

The Miracle of Networking…

Talking about my good friends, I started calling around to set up face to face meetings with GutZy Women I had met online, but who lived in the Sydney area. In the next video, I will introduce you to one of them…Randa Magdi. We had a blast at the “Bondi Icebergs” restaurant.

Here We Are, Sydney! Lets find Bondi Beach…
The “Sixth Sexiest Beach in the World”

Sydney, Australia is one of the most INCREDIBLE cities in the world!

The first time I visited Sydney 28 years ago I knew I had to come back
some day and spend more time exploring the beaches, the parks, the
architecture, the restaurants, the sights and the people.

I have NOT been disappointed! You won’t either…there is so much
to see and do you’d have to live here for years to take it all in.

You’ll be seeing much more of Sydney and the surrounding area in
future videos as well as phenomenal photo’s, but this particular video
takes you through a quick trip through Sydney on our way to Bondi
Beach, one of the oldest and most famous beaches on the outskirts
of Sydney.

SHARKS!!!

Bondi has just recently been in the headlines along with Bay Harbor
in Sydney for shark attacks. Scary and sad for the victims for sure,
but surely we have to realize that the ocean is their domain and with
any activity we do, we take a risk. Percentage wise, I’m sure they
suffer more than the humans who invade their territory.

In fact, the shark hunters were all up in arms because the Australian
government put a limit on the amount of sharks they can catch in an
attempt to keep the from extinction. The fisherman quoted in the paper
said he and his crew catch up to one hundred a day, stating that the
the authorities were making a mistake by cutting down on the limit.
His reasoning was if they are catching that many of them a day and
the fact that more people were being attacked, was it such a smart thing
to do?

One has to question, however, when there is profit motive involved, which
side is right. If YOU have some information to bring light on the subject
we would LOVE you to contribute!

After all, I’m big into Mother Nature and creating balance. That’s why I
and a whole team of concerned people have joined Social Traffic Inc. in
a celebration of the earth promoting MASS AWARENESS of Earth Day
on April 22nd by contributing to an online campaign we’ve named

EarthDay Birthday

Back to Bondi Beach…

Apparently it’s a popular place for the “beautiful people” and I first saw
it on a TV special called “The 10 Sexiest Beaches in the World”.
Yep, you guessed it…Bondi was in there, although I did observe that
there weren’t nearly as many “beach bunnies” laying in the sun for hours
because so many Australians have been turning up with skin cancer.
Skin cancer clinics are turning up all over the place.

The “beautiful people” are now doing much more healthy things like
jogging, sea kayaking, yoga on the grass. The food I found (other
than the very favorite dish, “fish & chips”) was nutritious as well as
pleasing to the eye.

Healthy, beautiful food…

Tons of fresh fish and seafood either grilled or lightly fried, tons of
remarkable and interesting salads, every kind of wrap you can imagine
with lots of greens. I was told by my friend, Sam Adkins, to watch out
because most people actually gain weight in Sydney, just because the
food is SO GOOD! Even the Czech food restaurant was GREAT. (Of
course we had to Czech (pun) that out…since my hubby and his
dentist friend, Honza,  who lives in Sydney, HAD to make a stop there.)

The hotel we stayed at was over 100 years old. The actual hotel part
was quite boutique-ee since most of the original building was turned
into a restaurant/nightclub/gambling establishment which as it turns
out was quite a popular place during the Christmas holidays.

Did you know gambling and prostitution is legal here in the
Land of Oz?

But it’s not like in States at all…it’s very regulated and kept low
key. Must be the English influence I figure. Very well done, I must
say because an interesting side to that is that where ever the vices
are allowed they are combined with warnings of addiction and offers
of help to deal with them if they get out of control.

There are HORRIBLE pictures on the packaging of cigarettes
showing all kinds of side effects of smoking. Every liquor store
or “bottle shop” as they call them has warnings. The drinking and
driving laws are VERY STRICT! They have random roadside
checks regularly with breathalizer testing ready.

As a result, everyone seems to know how many drinks are
considered appropriate depending on man or woman and
liquor strength. I’m  impressed by the effectiveness of the
Australian governments educational efforts!

Quite an interesting approach! One Americans could emulate.

Christmas holidays last for a month and it’s summertime…a perfect
time for families to enjoy the great outdoors. And enjoy they do!

As I did…not only in Sydney, but all around the Sydney beaches,
bays and famous sites. All revealed to you in future postings…

SO STAY TUNED!

My Dream Comes True…28 Years Later!

Have you ever visited a place and loved it so much you said to yourself and/or others you wanted to go back and live there someday?

That thought stays in the back of your mind, popping up every now and then,  wondering if there will ever be a right time to actually make it happen. The “can’ts”, “not nows”, or “just dreaming” tend to take over when jobs, businesses, kids, older family, homes, money, health issues or other responsibilities take priority compared to making dreams happen.

I’ve lived my share of that mind game. Although I’ve taken a lot of risks throughout my life in order to live it on my terms, I’ve also backed down a lot because I had certain responsibilities to others as a result of the choices I had made. We all do trade offs…especially when we give life to other human beings and raise them as best we can.

While doing that, we get sucked into bigger homes with mortgages, multiple cars with monthly payments, lots of toys that just  get more expensive as the kids and we grow older. Year after year we just accumulate more “stuff” and it starts to weigh us down. Under that weight, it just seems like too much trouble to move anywhere else or too hard to change the lifestyle we’ve developed. So sometimes our dreams get dimmer and we decide that maybe they were just silly ideas of our younger days.

Well, I’m here to tell you that sometimes dreams actually come true when these three ingredients are in place… TIMING, FOCUS and GutZ.

Timing is HUGE! It’s Why You Don’t Give Up on Your Dreams

Several years ago, when we made the move from Beulah to Pueblo, we made the conscious decision to RENT a home as opposed to buying one. Why? So that we could be free to move if the opportunity came up. Since my Hubby has never really like Pueblo, we figured the time would come.

I honestly am not a very good home owner even though I’ve studied the money game for many years and know the benefits of home ownership versus renting. I like the freedom that comes with non-ownership.

So when my daughter graduated from high school last spring and moved into her own place with a job and college classes, my hubby and I looked at each other and said, “OK, so where will we move to?”. We discussed other cities in Colorado, California, Utah, Washington and Idaho, but nothing really excited us.

All of a sudden I remembered (drum roll, please…)
What about Australia?

Ever since Joe sent me a ticket to come visit him in Australia for 3 weeks after we first met in Keystone, Colorado, I’ve wanted to go back to experience the beaches, food and people of that magical land down under! I advised my hubby to keep his Australian citizenship even after we got married, JUST IN CASE we might want to move there some day.

Well, after 28 years, it seemed  the right time and circumstances had appeared!

Since our son was now 24 with no positive prospects for jobs or ANY other worthwhile opportunities in Pueblo and my daughter graduated and wanting to be out on her own, as well as an economy seeing its’ worst days since the Great Depression…Hey it just seemed like the PERFECT TIME to move on and take the plunge.

The Law of Attraction is an AMAZING thing!

It didn’t take long at all to put the request out into the universe and get back the answer, once we determined to FOCUS on that goal. In fact it was SCARY it was so fast and easy!

Joe asked his old ski buddy who lives and works as a ski instructor in Colorado and Australia if he knew of anyone we could stay with or rent from until we could check things out and the answer was YES…HIS PLACE! We went up to Aspen shortly thereafter to celebrate our friend’s 60th birthday and negotiated the details with him and his wife.

Barbara Marx Hubbard Launches GutZy Initiative in the Big Tent at DNC

Barbara Marx Hubbard

This GutZy Woman is at it again!

She’s 73 1/2 years old and just keeps plugging away…

No kidding, she is like the Eveready Battery. Which is a GOOD THING for us and the world and why I admire her to no end.

If you aren’t familiar with Barbara and what she’s accomplished in her 70 + years, scroll down further in this article and I’ll give the scoop, but since this is such a TIMELY post, I want to let you know about what she and another GutZy Woman in Washington DC are up to right up front.

That way, you can hop on the bandwagon, no matter what political party you belong to. THIS IS REALLY COOL! Just to to give you a little background and a chance to hear her with your own ears, I’ll tell you a short personal story:

About a month ago, I got an email from Healthy Wealthy n Wise about an online interview with Janet Attwood & Barbara. I made it a point to listen because I’ve been to seminars put on by both women and LOVE how each of these women are positively impacting the world. Believe me, I was NOT disappointed!

All of it was FASCINATING, but the part I want to point out is when Janet asked Barbara about HOW in the world she was placed in nomination to be Vice President with Geraldine Ferraro in 1984? She replied that her idea to establish a “peace room” rather than a “war room” was so innovative and so well received that the delegates liked it well enough to nominate her.

IMAGINE…Focusing on WHAT’S WORKING vs WHAT’S NOT. What a CONCEPT!

She then talked about taking that idea a step further, explaining how her idea this election year was to approach each of the presidential nominees about establishing a “solution oriented initiative” which would commit the elected President to address the US population regularly through television to divulge people, initiatives and solutions that WERE ACTUALLY WORKING to solve the challenges of the US and the world.

Barbara went on to say that she was already working with others to set up the infrastructure so that those people out in the world who witnessed these communications and were PASSIONATE about the issues addressed, or were already having positive results from their own programs, could “meet” and work together to form more synergy in that particular area.

This increased POSITIVE energy around SOLUTIONS and the power of passion, she said, would have the potential to “step up” the time frames for turning things around…something that was VITAL since the world is reaching chaos at an increasingly FASTER RATE.

Hey…made a TON of sense to me!

So I got on the phone to Barbara’s assistant, Patricia, to see if they would be attending the Democratic National Convention in Denver to repeat her 1984 success at getting her idea supported, but alas, she was NOT invited.

Totally bummed, I then asked if I could possibly set up an interview with her for YOU, my GutZy Women (and Brave Men), to get to know her and this AMAZING idea to see you resonated with that UNIQUE approach to saving our world, but alas, I was once again disappointed, as she was so overbooked as it was.

Well, imagine my SURPRISE and EXCITEMENT when I got an email back from Patricia informing me that Barbara got an invitation to speak in the “Big Tent: right before Obama was to speak in the Stadium! I scrambled to try to get a press pass from the PR people in charge of the Big Tent as a blogger to follow the story, but once again, no cigar.

Yesterday, I Got the Official Announcement:

“We have 4 days until the Democratic National Convention where Barbara Marx Hubbard and Eleanor LeCain will launch, in the Denver Big Tent on Digg Stage from 4:00-4:55 PM, a non-partisan appeal to form The Citizens Solutions Council in the Office of the Vice President of the United States of America.

The Alliance for a Sustainable Colorado is hosting The Big Tent at the Democratic National Convention, where we will present our petition with thousands of names showing our support for establishment of a Citizens Solutions Council in the White House. We will make a similar presentation at the Republican National Convention in September.

Now in 2008, at the Big Tent in Denver Co. she is leading a grassroots movement to establish a Citizens Solutions Council in the Office of the Vice President, which will function to identify, connect, communicate and build on citizen-based solutions to our Nation’s problems.”

Remember how I always get so JAZZED about the internet? This is exactly why!Not only do I get to alert you to such a PARADIGM SHIFTING initiative on my blog, but WE get to watch it happen LIVE on the Internet, PLUS we can take part in getting in going right now, if we have a mind to by signing their petition online!
